Stove Top Mac and Cheese

Stove Top Mac and Cheese

A yummy mac and cheese is the quintessential family pasta dish, but sometimes you just don’t have the time to bake a huge casserole. That’s when this stove top mac and cheese recipe will come in handy, and it just might surprise you how good this recipe is.

Stove Top Mac and Cheese

Course: Main Dish, Pasta
Cuisine: American
Servings: 4
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes

  • 1 pound elbow pasta
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 oz. gouda
  • 4 oz. mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chives, minced

  1. Cook the pasta following the directions on the box.
  2. Once the pasta is cooked to al dente, drain off the cooking liquid, and add the heavy cream to the pot. Stir until the heavy cream is heated through and bubbly.
  3. Grate the cheese with your Indy Chef Cheese Grater and add the cheese to the pasta one handful at a time, stirring constantly, so the cheese melts evenly.
  4. Add in the butter and fresh nutmeg, and stir until the butter melts, making the sauce rich and creamy. Sprinkle the top with cheese and then put the frypan under the grill to melt the cheese. Serve topped with fresh chives and enjoy!

Recipe Notes:

Tip: You can use any kind of cheese you have on hand as long as it melts nicely. You can try the classic cheddar mac and cheese, or experiment with a mix of nutty Gruyere and creamy fontina cheese.
